Travel guide to colosseum Roma, Italy - The Roman Colosseum or Coliseum was originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre. This building can host 45 000 spectators and the world's largest Roman amphitheater. It hosted gladiatorial combat, glasses with wild animals and possibly implementation of early Christianity.

The History Of Roman Colosseum - Construction of the Roman Colosseum began under Emperor Vespasian and completed under his son Titus (79-81) in 80 AD. The Colosseum keep working for 450 years. Arenas was surrounded by a 5m-high wall to protect spectators from wild animal attacks. At the top of the wall is a podium, where the imperial and other VIPs have their seats. Near the imperial box is the cross, to commemorate the Christians are believed to have been martyred here. On top of this is the cavea, or seating resistant to 45 000 spectators.

How to Get There

You can use the Metro line B and get out at the station Colosseo. To Metro Line A, stop at the station Manzoni, then get on the south-bound tram for two stops.
